Useful data often exist in a non-digital format not readily usable in GIS. We have developed and streamlined our data conversion capabilities to ensure use of all available data. Digitization of parcel maps and orthorectification of aerial photographs are routine tasks for our expert staff. Common conversions include:
CADD to GIS
Hardcopy drawings to GIS
COGO
Updating existing data formats to new i.e. coverages to GDB
CADD to GIS
More and more public and private entities are realizing the need for georeferenced “smart” data. Creating and maintaining these data often means converting a CADD drawing to a GIS format. From parcels to water systems Jones Edmunds has created methods to streamline this process. We have developed CADD standards and custom applications to save time while enhancing accuracy and efficiency in CADD conversion.
Hardcopy drawing to GIS
When digital data are not available, we can use hardcopy drawings to convert data to GIS. This involves a process of scanning, georectifying, and digitizing.
COGO
We can use Coordinate Geometry (COGO) to digitize areas into GIS from written descriptions. We regularly use COGO to create parcels and easements from legal written descriptions.
Updating Data to New GIS formats
With the development of the geodatabase, Jones Edmunds clients are realizing the flexibility and benefits GIS has to offer. We can help clients update their existing data from shapefiles and coverages to personal or enterprise geodatabases.
