After the cancellation of last year’s annual conference at the beginning of the pandemic, it was a great pleasure to see friends and colleagues and serve as a Platinum Sponsor at the 2021 Florida Floodplain Managers Association (FFMA) Hybrid Conference this week. FFMA is a diverse group of over 1,000 professionals whose mission is to foster communication among those responsible for flood hazard mitigation activities. They also provide technical information and advice to governments and others about actions or policies that will affect flooding and encourage flood hazard research, education, and training.
Water Resources Managing Director and Senior Vice President Brett Cunningham, Client Service Manager and Vice President David Jones, Senior Engineer Khan Boupha, Department Manager Thy Do, and Project Engineer Tracy Dayton all attended, and David, Tracy, and Brett gave presentations. On Wednesday April 14, David and Tracy co-presented with Pinellas County Project Manager and Engineer Nabil Bawany on “Curlew Creek Watershed Critical Storm Analysis.” Their presentation highlighted the important influence rainfall distribution has on peak stage and shared the results of two separate critical storm analyses that included FDOT and NRCS distributions. On Thursday April 15, Brett, along with Pete Singhofen, President of Streamline Technologies, Inc., and Paul Miselis, Pinellas County’s Operations and Watershed Planning Section Manager, co-presented on “What Does the Future Hold for Watershed Analysis?” The presentation provided an understanding of how emerging technologies will likely be incorporated and plotted a course of how the profession will be transformed by technology over a 20-year horizon and beyond.
One of the highlights of this year’s conference was the sponsor spotlight video submission – view it below with the sound on! David said, “We had so much fun making and sharing this. We are truly a very proud sponsor and appreciate all the work FFMA does to help our State stay safe. They said the bar has been raised on the showcase videos!”
Thank you to our team who helped produce the video. Jamie Bell, Thy Do, Khan Boupha, Karen Lang, Tracy Dayton, Courtnay Cardozo, David Jones, and Ruben Palomo, all Associates in our Water Resources Discipline, served as the cast. Marketing Coordinator Kristen Farrell produced the video and Jamie Bell’s husband, David Bell, who is a sound engineer, produced our custom song.
